About
The SJFM was founded by a group of dedicated neighbors who worked diligently to bring fresh produce to the St. Johns Community and support our local farmers. In winter 2008 the St. Johns Neighborhood Association began organizing meetings and calling neighbors to action. This led to a spin off of the St. Johns Farmers’ Market Board of Directors established in Fall of 2008. After receiving generous grants from North Portland Neighborhood Services and Metro along with generous donations from many local businesses the SJFM had the capital it needed to build infrastructure for the market. By winter 2009 the SJFM had hired its first employee and was gaining strong support from the community. Spring was a busy time for us and by July 11, 2009 we had our first St. Johns Farmers’ Market. Opening day was a success with most farmers selling out of produce within two hours of opening. Our customer count hit 3,000. This was pulled together by countless volunteer hours and dedication. We thank all those with the vision and dedication to make the SJFM a reality and all those who continue to support and manage this non-profit community driven organization.
